הטעם בזה הוא משום חינוך, ובחינוך משותפים האב, שהוא מחויב לחנך, והקטן שהוא המתחנך, אבל אין זה ענין להתיר עי"ז לזר שאין חינוכו עליו להוציא ש"ש ולכן אין לחלק בזה בין בזמן שהקטן מתחנך או לא, וכיון שהותר הותר גם לאב. כן אפ"ל ודוחק קצת.

ט) אם נותנים לקטן להחזיק ס"ת אחר הגבה וכיו"ב?

כן ראיתי נוהגים באין מוחה ומפריע.

י) אם יש חילוק באמירת יגמה"ר ביחיד בין תפלת שחרית, מנחה, או סליחות?

לא ראיתי ולא שמעתי מעודי שום חילוק, ונפסק הדין סתם בשו"ע סתקס"ה ס"ה. - וסידור תהלת השם השלם הוא פוטוגראפיה מסידור שקדמו, ולא הספיק הזמן להגיהו כדבעי.

יא) אמירת ח"ק שאחר קרה"ת במנחת שבת, מתי יתחילו?

עיין בשער הכולל פכ"ט. אבל מנהגנו ע"פ הוראת כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר להתחיל לומר ח"ק קודם וקרוב לסוף הגלילה, ולמהר בהגלילה ואמירת יהללו באופן שיסיימו הח"ק אחר הכניסה, ועכ"פ להסמיכו לתפלה בכל האפשרי.

יב) נתקבלה עתה הפוטו ששלח בשביל ס' התמונות להיות לזכרון בהיכל כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר שליט"א, ולהעיר ממש"כ אדה"ז באגה"ק סכ"א בענין הזריזות, ולדייק בל': בזריזות (וישכם אברהם) - נפלאה (י"ל דמרמז ע"ז מה שבעצמו חבש חמורו) - להראות - (גם לאחרים למען יראו וילמדו, ראה במאמר י"ב תמוז דעבודת הבע"ת הוא עם אחרים, וי"ל דאברהם בענין העקדה הוא עבודה היפך מהותו, עתה ידעתי כי ירא גו', דזהו החילוק דבע"ת וצד"ג) - שמחתו וחפצו - (פני' הרצון תענוג, וראה בסוף המשך חה"פ תש"ט בענין שמחה ועונג).

יג) בטח ידוע לו מרצון כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר שליט"א לקבל ולרשום סיפורי זקני החסידים ותולדות ימי חייהם, ומהראוי שירשום ימי חיי אביו וכיו"ב, ולשלוח למערכת אוצר החסידים לאוסף הזכרונות וכן לעורר את המושפעים מאתו עד"ז.

בטח יאשר קבלת מכתבי זה.

בפ"ש כל החבורה תחי'.

A Rabbeinu Tam Bochur

 

Here is a letter signed in the name of the Frierdike Rebbe to Rabbi Yehuda Leib Posner from 4th Kislev 5707 describing what it means to wear Rabbeinu Tam tefillin.

Here is ksav yad that I believe has been printed but can't remember where. Whatever the case, the message it contains is extremely relevant to 3 Tammuz.

Yechidus

Sorry for the absence over recent months. It has taken 3 Tamuz to wake me from my inaction. I won't make any promises but I will try to start posting again as regularly as possible. Please be forgiving, I do have a Chabad House to run as well.

 

Here is an excerpt from a letter (to my knowledge not printed) from the Rebbe dated 11 Adar Sheni 5708 that discusses the concept of yechidus.

מש"כ זהו הענין ההכנות ליחידות הראשונות הנה לאו בפירש איתמר אבל לפענ"ד ברור שמובן אחרי ביאור ענין היחידות. וביאר כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר שליט"א (הועתק בהיום יום ע' פ"ו) שכולל ג' סעיפים: בירור מצבו של הנכנס, קביעות אופן עבודתו, התקשרות במסירה ונתינה יעיי"ש. והנה כ"ז לא מן השפה ולחוץ כ"א באמת לאמתו צריך שיהי' כלי מוכשר לקבל כהנ"ל וכלי ראוי (פארדינט) לקבל כהנ"ל, כל מה שתגדל המדריגה שאלי' הגיע בכחות יגדל ג"כ מה שמקבל ליחידות (ואפשר מה שנותנים לו ביחידות כי נראה אשר מלבד מקרים בודדים שנתנו ביחידות שלא בערך לכלי הנכנס לגמרי ולדוגמא אפ"ל ריק"ז ליפלער הנה ע"ד הרגיל ניתן שלא בערך של מקבל זה. וע"ד חילוק מקיף דלבוש ובית). וכמה מן הקושי דבעל שכל לפעול בעצמו שהוא מוסר ונותן א"ע שלא ע"פ שכל (כי אין טעם למסיר"נ בשכל) להוראות פלוני, או לבעל רצון תקיף לבא למדריגת בטל רצונך ולא עשה רצונך כו', וכל הגדול בזה קשה עליו ההכנה

Reb Volf and Art

Reb Volf was a baal chush in general and noticeably in art.

• Anyone who studied in Montreal will remember him coming into yeshiva the night before the Lag b'omer parades to help prepare banners for the children to hold. He would draw beautiful letters in freehand and it was the only time you would see him in yeshiva without all his levushim.
• One of his einiklach showed me some pictures he drew for them when they were kids, he seemed to like drawing pictures that included fish.
• He was once showing me some seforim in his house and he had drawn a really beautiful design in the inside cover that included his name.
• In a letter he once wrote to me he wrote a very elaborate b'h, not dissimilar to the way the Rebbe Rashab would write it.

Story

Reb Volf once told me the following story:

In the early years in Montreal there was a young man who helped with the development of Merkos and collecting maamad etc. When he became a choson he wanted the Rebbe (before the nesius) to be mesader kiddushin but the Rebbe declined. Reb Volf was concerned that this person would feel hurt and it may affect his future involvement in askonus for Lubavitch so he called the Rebbe and tried to explain why it would be a good idea to be mesader kiddushin. The Rebbe responded:

מיט הפחדות שרעק'ן מיר נישט און מיט חניפות נעמען מיר נישט איין איך האב געזאגט איך קען נישט קומען

And hung up the phone.

"Where there's a will, there's a way"!

Here the Rebbe writes to Reb Volf Greenglass regarding a notice sent to be printed in "HaChover" which was published in Montreal in the 1940's.

This is the letter the Frierdike Rebbe sent each of his nine Shluchim upon their arrival in Montreal.

Reb Volf and Neginah

Anyone who learnt in Montreal will remember how Reb Volf would be medayek in the singing of nigunim, often quoting the vort, that if you don't have a chush in neginah you can't have a chush in Chassidus, he would explain that it doesn't mean you have to have a good voice (which he didn't have) but the ability to differentiate the notes and understand the nigun. He had a repertoire of niggunim that are not usually sung anywhere else as well as original compositions of his own, the most famous of which was affectionately known as 'The Quebec'er Nigun'.

At the farbrengen of Lag B'omer 5711 the Rebbe motioned to Reb Volf and said to him 'Nu, du bist doch a baal menagen, zing a nigun.'

When I was in yeshiva I would hear rumours that Reb Volf played the violin and in the olden days would actually play at farbrengens. I was curious so I decided to ask him about it. Since he was known to to try and keep things private I can't be sure that what he told me was the whole truth, however, this is what he said. For reasons he didn't wish to share he was advised to learn music as a form of therapy so he took lessons in the violin, the lessons lasted for about 7 months after which he gave it up as he felt he didn't have the time, he said that his teacher felt that he learnt in 7 months what others would take years to grasp (the only time I had ever felt he was bragging) but since then he has never played.

Boruch Dayan Hoemes

This week we received the sad news of the passing of Reb Volf Greenglass. In truth, he was the inspiration behind this blog because he taught me the geshmak of a ksav yad and any inyan that is shayach to Rabboseinu Nesieinu. I haven't posted for a long time, but feel that now is the time to get back in the swing of things. There is so much to say about this great man and I hope over the next few weeks to share with you letters from the Rebbe to him as well as stories and experiences I had with him.

As a first instalment here is a ksav yad of the Rebbe on the nusach hamatzeivah of Reb Volf's wife who passed away on 8 Teves 5742. My copy is not that clear but it says that in addition to writing 'Reb' before Reb Volf's name it should say 'HaRav HaChosid Mashpia DeTomchei Tmimim HaTomim' and on condition that the Chevra Kadisha agree.

I once mentioned this ksav to Reb Volf and in his typically humble way laughed back at me and said 'abi es zol shtayen oifen matzeivah' in a tone that suggested that he thought nothing of it.

Here is a letter from R' Shmuel Zalmanov to rabbonim on behalf of Vaad Shomrei Shabbos encouraging them to speak about shmiras shabbos in their shuls and to establish shiurim in hilchos shabbos.

Purim 5689

Here is a hanocho of a sicha of the Frierdike Rebbe from Purim 5689. Most of the details are printed in Sefer Hasichos, however, there are some extra geshmake nekudos that were not printed.
